Muddy Water Trout

Headed down to Cottage Grove lake, since nothing else would fish.

One small unclipped rainbow.  I wonder where this little dude came from:

The typical Holdovers:

Pretty fun day, wore a T-shirt!

February.2012. Floating the MAC

The water came down to a perfect level for a float.  Will medium expectations of fish, we were expecting a typical day on the Mac.  Generally we get one, maybe two nice fish.  A 16" fish on the Mac is what I would consider "nice"

I landed 5 over 16" with several approaching the 20" mark.  EPIC....

I can't really say the fish were in just one type of water, but for the most part in slower sections in the 5-6' deep range with structure.  Lots of whitefish hooked, awesome day on the water!

Summer Steelhead eat trout flies..

Had the pleasure of floating the willamette with my buddy steve in the Oregon Duck drift boat. Had many takes on swung flies, but no solid hookups. I decided to throw some nymphs on my Echo 10' 6wt. I hooked the firrst fish on a size 8 possie bugger. I thought it was a trout at first because the fish didnt do much. As soon as the drift boat caught up to where the fish was, all hell broke loose and the fish headed for the other side of the river. I managed to catch up to the fish, but it bent my hook and ran off.

This gave me some confidence in the flies and i later connected on a fish that bit twice(one i was not even remotely paying attention) and one the next drift a take down and paydirt!

Feb Report!

Its been way too long since I have been able to get onto the local waters down here in the southern valley. Water levels finally became fishable again. I hate when the water really rips because the BWO's really disappear for like a month. With March Browns right around the corner I am psyched!

Three great coastal cutthroat!

BTW GO STEELERS!!!!

Well, I haven't gotten out the fly rod since my last post two months ago....

I did manage to get over to lake Shasta for some Bass fishing. It was the worst the fishing has ever been in the past 8 years I have gone. The cold weather really got the fish down.

It was a good time but I sure can't wait to get back on the river...

for some of these.......

Only one fish Pic today was of steves first fish of the day a nice redside on a pt nymph.

Man was it cold and windy last week when we got out. The early hatch was non-existant due to the colder water. We still managed 13 fish between 3 of us. I think we got about 5 on dries.

Flies:
1. Mega Prince size 8.

2. Copper John black/blue size 14
3.PT soft hackle

4.March Brown Cripple
5. march brown dry

6. Pheasant Tail size 14 bead head of course.

All in all a great day on the water. The water spiked hard friday so hopefully we can get out thursday again and do some damage.
